My Favorite Maps Within Books
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
This map appears in the first few pages of the edition of Treasure Island that I have. I love that it outlines treasure island itself and includes notes such as “strong tide here” or bulk of treasure found here.”
Dragon Teeth by Michael Crichton
This map is location the the endpaper when you first open the book. The map shows the route taken by William Johnson from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Deadwood, Dakota Territory.
Keeper and the Rune Stone by Paige W. Pendleton
This map is located right before the prologue. This photo really doesn’t do it justice! I have had the opportunity to see a larger colored version, and it is stunning!
The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
Toward the back of this edition of the book, there is a whole maps section. This one is my favorite, as it shows all of the Westside of Middle-Earth.
The Complete Tales of Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne
How cute is this map?! I love that it is designed as though Christopher Robin made it, complete with comments and spelling errors. And check out that compass!
Honorable Mention- The Marauder’s Map from the Harry Potter series
Thanks for reading!
What is your favorite map within a book?
I love me a book with a nice map in it. The Winnie-the-Pooh map looks gorgeous!
๐
I love a good map! Never noticed that Pooh compass before!
It's SO cute! ๐
I love maps in books! The Middle- earth one is definitely a favorite, and so is the Hundred Aker Wood (I love the misspellings). And a good treasure map is awesome!
๐
I love maps on endpapers. I just find them so charming. Is that Middle Earth map from the pocket edition of the books?
I do too! ๐ And yes, it is!
I knew it! I have the same editions of the books.
Yay!!! They're so neat!! ๐
My favorite maps are definitely the map of the Hundred Acre Wood and the Marauder's Map!
๐
Winnie-the-Pooh has a map? It's so colorful. Love it! Thanks for joining this week, Erica. =)
My edition does at least! ๐ I love it so much! I've had it since I was a kid! And of course, thanks for hosting!
Great list of maps within books!
I must have missed the map in Winnie the Pooh. Now I have to go and find the book!
๐
Ah I wasn't a fan of Treasure Island so it is was hard for me to admire the map when I read it because I was biased! But I do love the Winnie the Pooh one. My childhood <3
Ah yeah, I hear ya! I didn't like it when I read it for school either. I was planning on giving it another shot this winter. We'll see if I actually read the whole thing! ๐
