Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman, illustrated by S.D. Schindler is another of my all time favorite halloween reads from my childhood!
When I heard that there was also a song version of the book, I just had to give it a reread and a listen!
My Thoughts on Big Pumpkin by Erica Silverman, illustrated by S.D. Schindler
The book was just as lovely as I remembered! The storyline is so simple, but so exciting! I remember being so nervous that they weren’t going to be able to get the pumpkin off the vine.
I really love the artwork! I remember the page with the ghost trying to detach the pumpkin the most! That must have been my favorite character as a kid.
Listening to the song was so much fun! The story was just perfect to be sung! I loved that each character had a voice of it’s own. And let me tell you… this song will most definitely be stuck in my head!
My only gripe was that the noise to turn the page was quite alarming! If this was ever redone, something less intense, like a witch’s cackle or a meow or something would be a very welcomed addition.
Here’s the song if you’d like to check it out:
My Final Thoughts on Big Pumpkin
I definitely recommend pairing the book with the song or so you can see the illustrations! This was so much fun!

I don't think I read this as a kid! Not that I remember of course, aside from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. I love the illustrations though, and it's so cool this has a song to it as well!

So unfortunate that the original song can’t be purchased with the book. It’s a great song to sing with the book.
