In Day 6 of the Dead Meat series by Nick Clausen, the zombie outbreak continues to spread. This time, across the sea.
In the first chapter, a boat has landed in Great Britain and while the police were called quickly, it was already too late…
Full disclosure: I was given a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. This did not affect my rating in any way. I also purchased myself a copy.
Let’s dive in!
My Thoughts on Dead Meat: Day 6 by Nick Clausen
While things continue to fall apart, we follow our main groups that are either the mother and son that continue to deal with their situation in the safe house, or the two groups that are trying to find safety. While one situation is resolved for now, things are still very tense for the others.
Just like the others in this series, this one had my blood pumping! I was so nervous for all of the characters that we have been following. This is another entry where some make it, but unfortunately, some do not.
I grew up on a tiny island off the coast of Maine, so I really loved that the story went to an island as well! Especially with how we learned they were handling the outbreak for the good of the whole community at the start. That’s certainly not the case in other areas! This made me a bit homesick with the current COVID-19 pandemic and how crazy and awful people have been.
From the new characters, I loved Agnete! This woman is such a lovely character! I was so happy that a group that we have been following ran into her when they landed on an island. Just seeing how kind she is was so refreshing! Especially introducing her so soon after the angry and afraid man they had met first when arriving…
I read this one while we are still deep in the pandemic with COVID-19 here in the US, and again, reading about many things happening in this story line up with the current state of affairs. It’s heartbreaking, but also terrifying!
The people that get bitten by a zombie and try to hide it show a lot of the same traits as the people refusing to follow simple guidelines in the real world today…
My Favorite Passages from Dead Meat: Day 6
Like in previous books, my first favorite passage is from the copyright page: No zombies were harmed in the making of this book.
Then, just as Eli manages to get back up and is about to lunge at Dan’s father, William steps in from the side, holding onto the frame of the door and swinging his leg soccer-style, landing his foot squarely under Eli’s chin.
Eli is thrown backwards out of the door and disappears.
William leans forward and bellows out into the night: “Told you I’d kick you off the fucking helicopter, asshole!“
“I don’t know,” William says, shaking his head, looking out over the hilly landscape. “I’m starting to think, in a wold like this, where everything is turning to shit, doing the right thing may not be the right thing to do anymore.”
Nasira shrugs. “Maybe you’re right. Or maybe this is the kind of world where doing the right thing matters the most.”
Dan shakes his head. “I didn’t watch that show.”
William looks at him, dumbfounded. “Seriously? Dude, if Netflix survives the end of the world, we’re gonna watch Breaking Bad together.”
My Final Thoughts on Dead Meat: Day 6
Day 6 was another killer entry in this series. I just finished reading it, and I already cannot wait to get my hands on Day 7 to see what happens next!
If you haven’t yet, I highly recommend beginning this series if you enjoy awesome zombie tales!
